Day 8- Magic Kingdom and miles of walking...

Day 8 of fun - Magic Kingdom

I’m writing this and while it’s only 10:45pm- early for me, I’m so completely exhausted.

We started the day by leavig our hotel and aiming to make rope drop for Magic Kingdom park- meaning that we were there for the opening show at the train station and then were one of the first ones through to the parks.  Frst I needed coffee, then onto the monorail to the MK. We were there at about 8:30 am, for a 9am opening.

We stopped briefly to get a few pictures- big mistake. By the time we slowly walked to fantasyland the line for Dumbo was 20 minutes. We did it, simply because it’s P’s favorite and the lines will only get longer. The first thing when walking through Magic Kingdom I noticed was how much more spread out and not so seamless the lands were compared to Disneyland. Each land really felt like a different land, and you couldn’t see any hint of any of the rest of the park. Nice, but also means much more walking.

So we did Dumbo and the carousel in Fantasyland, then headed over to Adventure land and did the Magic Carpets (similar to Dumbo) and then Pirates. Let me say that I was SO disappointed in pirates here. Disneyland’s version is much better and twice as long. Both kids got off and were like, that’s it? Lol.

We wandered a bit in the shops and then headed back to Fantasyland for Piper’s Bibbibidi Bobbodi Boutique appointment. I had made it months ago yet I almost forgot about it! Piper was wearing the dress I bought months and months ago but got as a gift this morning so she was already super happy. They give the little girls choices of hair style, tiara color, nail color and makeup color. Then they pixie dust (glitter) them and give them a sash. They also get to take a whole makeup palate home, a couple nail polishes and body jewels- so it was worth the money. She had so much fun there, and loved all the attention nearly everyone gave her the rest of the day.

After her appointment, we went and saw Mickey’s Philharmagic. It is a 3D show that it really 3D- like coming out at you, ducking and grabbing things in front of you kind of 3D. Really neat. It is a new storyline about Donald trying to get Sorcerer Mickey’s hat- and it incorporates many characters and songs into it. It also has other effects- when water is splashed in the water, it is sprayed down at you, when the wind blows in the movie, it’s blown at you, etc. Very immersing which made it fun.

We headed back to our resort at this point, needing a break from the park. My usual park going strategy is pretty intense, but the kids wanted to mostly wander and just do their favorites or new things which was fine with me. After coming back from the cruise I just wanted to stay relaxed as much as possible. So we got back to our room, changed into our swim suits and headed out to the pool. We swam, and played in the fountains, then headed to the beach in front of our house. I climbed into a deck chair and then Piper followed shortly and we both fell asleep.

We came back, and we all just laid around. P played with her new pony toys and colored, Aidan played his DS, and I was updating all my picture captions and posting yesterdays pictures/blog. The kids then played outside for a bit and found our resident gecko that lives in the bushes in our patio- which delighted P.

We headed over to dinner at 7 in the main building of our resort. We had reservations at Chef Mickey’s which is an interactive character buffet. We were seated and our drink orders taken and then given permission to go get our food whenever from the buffet. The food was semi ok. The salmon was good and the cold salads, but nothing was kept hot enough so it was slightly annoying. The kids loved the build your own sundae bar though.

The characters are the fab 5, and they come out to dance every 15 minutes or so around all the tables, and then in the meantime they rotate around to all the tables for pictures with the kids. The kids loved it and Piper refused to let go of Minnies dress- which was pretty cute. The “stuffed” characters don’t talk so there was nothing Minnie could really do until I forced P off her.

By the time dinner was done it was 8:45! We decided to go back to magic kingdom, despite there being the electrical parade at 9, fireworks at 10 and another parade at 11. We took the monorail in front of Chef Mickeys, and then was at the turnstiles of the MK at 8:55. I didn’t plan on being at dinner so long so we didn’t get good seats for the parade, but the kids saw enough just walking by. Main street was an absolute nightmare though- luckily the first right turn was headed right where we wanted to go- Tomorrowland.

We had walked through Liberty Square & Frontierland and didn’t even hit Toontown because the kids had seen every character imaginable out there already. But Tomorrowland they wanted to go to. We did Buzz Lightyear’s shooting ride, and walked around a lot. Then the kids wanted to tale the transit authority which I didn’t remember what it did. It looked just like these lame cars that went around on a track. So glad I went though- it takes you inside the rides of Tomorrowland where no one notices. We were high on a track inside Buzz Lightyear, and then we went underneath in the dark the entire space mountain (once your eyes adjusted it was awesome to see the tracks above you and stars everywhere- but the screams kind freaked the kids out, thinking we were about to do something terrifying. Lol.

Piper was getting tired- and it was 10 o’clock so we headed back to the monorail. On the way we saw the beginning of the new summer firework show which was amazing. The castle is so pretty and night and the fireworks lit up the entire stage. We aren’t going back to MK at all this trip- but we are taking a fireworks cruise on Friday night that passes behind the castle so we will get a great view of the fireworks (and they pump in the sound system of the show so it has a great effect still).

We got back to the room and the kids crashed. P’s hair is rock solid- even after swimming for an hour today. It still looks perfect- but we will see how it looks in the morning. Lol.

Early day tomorrow- 6am wake up call and out the door by 7am to catch a cab to Universal Studios. Off to see Wizarding World of Harry Potter and the rest of Islands of Adventure. Hopefully able to get through it all fairly quick, since most of the rides there are thrill rides, and the kids really only want to see HP world. I’m hoping for an afternoon of swimming, and relaxing pool side. We have dinner tomorrow night at one of the resort restaurants so we can hang out here the whole evening.
